October arrives this week, and there’s a lot happening around the Valley. From easy weekday outings to fall festivals, Potato Days, Dozer Day, free family activities, and a few good food stops, we’ve pulled together what’s worth putting on the calendar.

🎃 SCARECROW STROLL + FLOWER POWER HAPPY HOUR

Thursday, Oct. 1 • Idaho Botanical Garden

Scarecrow Stroll kicks off this week with handmade scarecrows created by local families, schools, artists and businesses throughout the Garden.

The best time to check it out? Thursday from 4–7 PM during Flower Power Happy Hour, when Garden admission is FREE.

Valley Drop take: One of the easiest free fall outings of the week — walk the Garden, check out the scarecrows and enjoy an early October evening outside.

Friday, Oct. 2–Sunday, Oct. 4 • Idaho Botanical Garden

Potato Days is taking over the Garden for a full weekend celebrating one of Idaho’s most famous crops. Expect potato-inspired food and drinks, live music, family-friendly activities, and plenty of Idaho agriculture pride.

Friday also brings a Guinness World Records attempt for the largest serving of french fries, which gives families an extra reason to check it out.

Valley Drop take: If your family loves fries, tots, baked potatoes, or just a good fall festival, this is one of the weekend’s bigger events.

🎃 GREEN ACRES FALL FESTIVAL

Friday, Oct. 2–Sunday, Oct. 4 • Green Acres Food Truck Park

Green Acres is turning its spot along the Greenbelt into a mini fall festival with pumpkins, hay bales, fall photo spots, food trucks, seasonal treats and live music all weekend.

There are also plenty of activities for the kids, including FREE pumpkin painting, spooky slime, face painting, balloon animals, fall crafts and games.

Valley Drop take: This is a good one if you want the fall-festival feel without paying an admission fee — plus you can grab dinner while the kids have something to do.

Saturday, Oct. 3 & Sunday, Oct. 4 • Dennis Technical Education Center

Dozer Day is basically a fair where the “rides” are real heavy construction equipment. Kids can climb into the driver’s seat and operate dozers, excavators, loaders and other equipment with a professional operator beside them. It’s geared especially toward kids around ages 2–10, but there are activities for all ages.

Valley Drop take: If your kid is into construction trucks, this is probably one of the coolest hands-on events of the weekend.

Saturday, Oct. 3 • Edwards Greenhouse

This is a really good family pick because admission is free, and then you can choose whether to pay for any of the hands-on activities. Expect fall crafts, live music, food trucks, seasonal sales, and kid-friendly activities throughout the greenhouse.

Saturday, Oct. 3 • Indian Creek Plaza, Caldwell

This is a brand-new signature fall event for 2026 built around Caldwell’s agricultural roots. Families can check out pumpkins, antique tractors, industrial equipment, local vendors, and hands-on agriculture activities, with live music and dancing throughout the afternoon.

The schedule includes live music from Boulder Hill, country swing and line dancing, Fiddle Express, and Chicken Drop Bingo later in the afternoon.

Valley Drop take: This one feels different from the typical fall festival — more local agriculture, tractors, and hands-on activities for the kids.

🛍️ FINAL SUNDAY MARKET AT STOREY PARK

Sunday, Oct. 4 • Storey Park, Meridian

The Sunday Market wraps up its season with 60+ local vendors, food and treats, family activities, and a few extra fall touches throughout the park. Participating vendors will also have “Trick or Booth” goodies for kids, and there’s a Sip & Paint happening in the park.

Valley Drop take: An easy, free Sunday outing if you want to grab food, browse local vendors, and let the kids enjoy the park without committing to a big-ticket event.

Kick off the week with local vendors, baked treats, food trucks, live entertainment, and plenty of space for the kids to play at Storey Park. The regular 2026 market season runs through Sept. 28, with a separate Harvest Edition planned for Oct. 5.

TUESDAY • SEPT. 29

🐶 Read to a Therapy Dog
4–5 PM • Library! at Bown Crossing • FREE

Kids can spend 5–10 minutes reading to a certified therapy dog in a relaxed, low-pressure setting — a fun one for young readers.

🛝 JUMP Happy[ness] Hour + Slide
5–8 PM • JUMP Boise • FREE

JUMP’s Tuesday community night includes music, games and rooftop fun, with the five-story slide open weather permitting.

WEDNESDAY • SEPT. 30

🍔 Victory Street Eats
4–8 PM • Victory Gardens Nursery, Meridian

Skip cooking and grab dinner from rotating food trucks with drinks and an easy outdoor atmosphere.

🎪 Venardos Circus

A Broadway-style circus under the big top with acrobatics, comedy and live entertainment. The Meridian run continues through Sunday, Oct. 4.

FRIDAY • OCT. 2

🧡 Boise State Homecoming Parade
6–7 PM • Boise State University

Blue and orange take over campus for Boise State’s annual Homecoming Parade, beginning near the Morrison Center and traveling down Friendship Lane. A fun, easy outing for Bronco families.

SUNDAY • OCT. 4

🚣 FREE Paddle Boat Rides
10 AM–5 PM • Discovery Center of Idaho • FREE

Take one last spin before paddle boat season ends. 30-minute rides are completely free and first come, first served.

🏃 YMCA Harrison Classic Kids Race
3 PM • Harrison Boulevard, Boise

A family-friendly one-mile run for kids down Harrison Boulevard. Every participant gets a T-shirt, medal and healthy snack at the finish.

A new dedicated gluten-free bakery has opened in Meridian, with breads, cinnamon rolls, cookies, scones, bagels and other baked goods made in a gluten-free kitchen. The brick-and-mortar shop opened in September at 2976 E. Overland Rd.

Valley Drop take: This is a strong one to know about even if your family isn’t gluten-free —especially for families looking for a dedicated gluten-free bakery.

The local BBQ favorite just opened its third Treasure Valley location in North Meridian. The new spot has indoor seating and a drive-thru, making it an easy family dinner option when nobody feels like cooking. It officially opened Sept. 8.

Expect brisket, pulled pork, baby back ribs, BBQ chicken and sausage, plus classic sides like mac & cheese, baked beans, coleslaw and potato salad.

The Village Expansion Grand Opening
Friday, Oct. 9 • The Village at Meridian

The Village’s new expansion officially celebrates its grand opening next Friday with new store openings, live entertainment, giveaways, food and performances throughout the day. Kendra Scott, Gorjana and Tecovas are among the retailers expected to open as part of the next wave.
